I know there are a lot of folks, you may be one of them, who just cringe when they hear things like “see your target” or “visualize your end results” or worse yet “place yourself in the movie in your mind” and then off they go screaming into the sunset…
“What if I can’t visualize?!” they sob. “I just can’t -see- myself, or those things…”
I laugh.
No, really. I do. I try to laugh quietly if that makes you feel better about me…
But think about this: those very same people (maybe even you) are feeling a fear, a pressure, and a disappointment – in their minds – right now, and reacting to it.
Isn’t that what visualization really is?
Sure it is.
If you find that you also fall into this group of people who think that they cannot visualize, or just aren’t good at visualizing, then think about this:
When was the last time your boss, teacher, spouse, or significant other called you up and said something along the lines of, “We have to talk”?
Or someone you care deeply about was more than 30 minutes late for an appointment and had not contacted you to let you know what was happening?
Did you get upset? A little tense? Worried? Pace around? Maybe sweat a little?
Probably the answer is “yes” and to most or all of the above.
Why did you do that?
Because you were imagining the possible scenarios, the possibilities of what -could have- happened, and they were not good.
Right?
If you are able to see, feel these kinds of emotions and stress when you are in these situations, you are most certainly able to see, feel the positives of what you are trying to visualize as well.
So the next time you start to feel like you can’t visualize remember that yes, you can visualize, vividly.
